What are your most memorable trips and experiences related to your practice?
I've been fortunate to be born in the land of yoga, in South India. Some of my most memorable trips were: in May 2008, yoga vacation for one month at the Sivananda ashram in Kerala, India; and then in February 2015, Yoga Teacher Training at the same ashram.
What are your current areas of interest related to your practice?
Yoga is easily misunderstood in the West. Simply put, asanas in yoga are done to prepare the body and mind to connect with the divine. My practice and my time is spent in learning to go inward in search of that "union," that connection, between the body, the mind, and the divine. I have come to realize that the more I teach yoga, the more vastness I discover in the world of yoga. I keep re-reading this book: The Autobiography of a Yogi. The riches of the world are no comparison to this inner treasure trove!
What to expect in class: Madhan draws from his diverse training in many types of yoga and philosophy for his holistic practice and teaching. Madhan strives to lead his students towards a more positive connection between body, mind, and spirit through the practice of classical yoga postures, breathwork, meditation, and more.
Madhan has been teaching yoga since March 2015 and began teaching with the Yoga Center of Columbia in 2025. He has practiced many types of yoga, including Hatha and Iyengar, and explored many philosophies of yoga, such as Vedanta. Madhan is trained in a traditional form of yoga called Sivananda Yoga that merges multiple facets of the practice into a more holistic experience to benefit and strengthen the body, mind and spirit.
