Dementia is the umbrella term for a loss in cognition that leads to difficulty performing everyday tasks. There are over 120 different types of dementia, of which Alzheimer’s  disease accounts for 60 - 80 percent. This underserved population can benefit greatly from a consistent yoga practice, but as a yoga teacher, it can be challenging to know what to do. Join Cathy Rees for this 4 - hour workshop to learn about the brain, dementia and useful approaches for engaging the student with dementia. Participate in a mock class designed especially for your students suffering from dementia and their care partners.   • Part I: Gain functional awareness of the brain,nervous system, and neurotransmitters
  • Part II: Differentiate brain disorders and associated behaviors including Alzheimer’s disease, fronto-temporal dementia, Parkinson’s disease, TBI, and vascular dementia.
  • Part III: Practice useful approaches for teaching yoga for those with dementia
  • Part IV: Understand challenges of caregivers and participate in a Care Partner yoga class
