Grow Your Practice: A Yoga Immersion; January 20 - July 1, 2018

Is this Immersion for me?  (Jan. 20 - July 1, 2018)

The intention of this Immersion is to deepen a student’s knowledge and love of the ancient yet modern practice of yoga. Students of all levels are welcome and each student will acquire the tools to strengthen their own personal practice. There is no instruction about teaching yoga in this program, only the luxury of time to explore the depth of practices. This Immersion is designed for all who seek to explore the profound awareness available through yoga. It is for:

  • The committed yoga student who wants to deepen her/his yoga practice and gain an understanding of yoga philosophy without training to teach yoga.
  • Aspiring yoga teachers who wish to attend Yoga Teacher Training but have not fulfilled all the prerequisites.
  • Yoga teachers who have completed Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) but seek to enhance and refine their abilities.

Note:  This is not a workshop - it is a yoga Immersion (7 weekends / 50 hours) designed to take your personal yoga practice to the next level and develop your understanding of the deeper concepts of yoga.

For more information about the immersion including brochure and application, as well as bio's of Kelly Fisher and Debbie Martin, your instructors, please click on the link below.

Prison Yoga Project's Women Prisoners Scholarship Fund

Prison Yoga Project's Women Prisoners Scholarship Fund

For women behind bars, a yoga practice can be profoundly healing. With your help, we can go one step further: by sponsoring a yoga teacher training behind bars, we can empower incarcerated women to heal not only themselves, but others. 90% of incarcerated women will be released back into the community. Many will return to young families who need nurturing and a steady household income. Without therapeutic programming and skills training, these women lack real tools to find meaningful employment and build a better future.

A yoga teacher training provides women behind bars with an in-depth opportunity to experience selfhealing, and to develop personal responsibility. While earning a professional registration that is recognized nationwide, they can also regain a sense of their own abilities and worth. The training is also a sustainable, cost-effective way to enable women to give back in their communities and create a ripple effect of healing and empowerment.

Support us as Prison Yoga Project partners with the Yoga Center of Columbia to present its first in prison training at Maryland Correctional Institution for Women. From February through December 2016, incarcerated women will study to become registered as Yoga Alliance RYT 200 instructors—providing them with both practical skills to support their future, and a renewed sense of their abilities and worth.

Be sure to read this Yoga Journal article at http://www.yogajournal.com/article/lifestyle/good-karma-prison-ytt/ .  You can learn more and donate at givebackyoga.org/PYPwomen.

Yoga Salutes Nonviolence

Yoga Salutes Nonviolence (YSNV) is a charity event to benefit HopeWorks of Howard County, our local rape crisis & domestic violence center. Students and practitioners gather together to participate in 108 Sun Salutations (or as many as they can). The participants, teachers and students alike, are sponsored by family, friends and students. Whether you're a new student, a regular practitioner, or a teacher, you have what it takes to help!

This year the Yoga Center of Columbia is joined by Coreworks, The Happy Yogi, Yoga Love, and BYC Yoga 26 in this wonderful effort.

You don't need to do yoga to participate! Make a donation or sponsor a participant, buy a raffle ticket or a practice CD.  For practice, here's a couple sun salutations:
