Yoga For Hips, Hamstrings, & Lower Back with Lucy Lomax

Modern society sits most of the day – we work, go to school, drive, sit at our computer, or watch TV. And we do these things most of our waking hours. Consequently, that continually contracted, forward bending action causes our hips to get tight, and our lower back and upper legs to lose their muscular support. And then we have pain or stiffness. The more we do this, the more the chain of tight/weak action is reinforced – it’s like living in a continual semi-forward fold — yikes! Though we may do some...

The vibration from the chanting helps break up blocked energy from the inside out while rebalancing and revitalizing a woman’s hormonal system. The beauty of this group healing practice, which utilizes both traditional Tibetan healing sounds and mudras, is that it uses the collective vibration from all the women’s voices to magnify the healing response.

By this time of year, as the days get shorter and the nights longer, our body/ minds naturally crave more peace and quiet. But instead of slowing down and gathering indoors around the fireplace, sharing meals and stories with friends and family as in days long past, we continue in full holiday production mode. Often, we find ourselves depleted by year’s end. What to do? Give yourself permission to metaphorically “go inside” for some personal R&R (rest & relaxation) time. A few hours spent in a mini-vacation away from seasonal hustle and bustle can do wonders to help you rejuvenate. This workshop is all about self-care. It is designed to help you...

Saturday, June 10, 12:30pm - 6:30pm  (The Myofascial ‘Sutras’ of the Arms)

The work with the upper body from the first day will be carried over into the practice and into a deeper exploration of the myofascial lines or ‘sutras’ that govern the actions of the arms - the lines of larger muscles that govern the movement of the shoulder blades and give the arms their power, as well as the deeper lines of muscles that govern rotations and are crucial for the health of the rotator cuffs, elbows and wrists. Additional connections to scoliosis and asymmetries in the shoulders will be made, with suggestions for practice. The work with pranayama, the Vayus and Yoga Nidra will continue in the afternoon Saturday and Sunday.

The afternoon will introduce an understanding of the asymmetries - side-bends and rotations of the spine that affect the rib cage, neck and shoulders - that are typical of scoliosis and which are also present to a much lesser degree in many of us who do not have scoliosis, but experience pain and difficulties from more subtle versions of these asymmetries.

In this workshop we will break things - ceramics and pottery - in a cathartic way and then reorganize them to create something new. This process can shift perspective in mind, body, and spirit. If something is on your mind...
